Information Technology

The Department of Information Technology prepares students in the core competencies of the IT discipline, including platform technologies, networking and communications, information security and management, programming fundamentals, multimedia,database administration, and Web systems and technologies. 

Mission Statement

Our mission is to educate students who can meet the challenges of the 21st century information age; conduct leading-edge research integrating people, information and technology; and carry out service activities that address global problems and challenges.

In support of this mission, we will:

  • Prepare students to function effectively in a dynamic technological era.
  • Promote the development of computer-related skills for immediate application to other curricular areas.
  • Enable to have sound knowledge of the theory behind the core subjects like computer architecture, operating systems, data structures, data bases, computer networks.
  • Equip to possess sound skills in selected procedural and object oriented programming languages, designing databases and managing them, software engineering and web-based application.
  • Facilitate the development and application of problem-solving skills in students.
  • Provide leadership and planning for the effective and strategic use of emerging technologies. 
  • Demonstrate technical and operational excellence through a commitment to professionalism and continuous improvement.

Vision Statement

The Bachelor of Information Technology is an innovative program based on a number of core courses in IT. Upon graduation, the students will be able to understand the impact of technological change and also appreciate the current usage of IT in business and industry. Further, the students will be exposed to the current trends in computing which will enable them to become leaders in the IT field.

 Career Outcomes

As a graduate of this Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program, you may pursue a career as an information systems specialist, IT project manager, network support specialist, systems programmer, web design and developer, database developer or IT instructor. 

The IT major is a suitable choice for students interested in future employment in the areas including software developers in systems software and applications, database administrators, network and computer system administrators and computer systems analysts, as well as information security analysts, web developers and computer network architects.

 Learning Outcomes

To achieve the objective of this program, the following learning outcomes have been established:

  • Students will be able to identify characteristics of computer systems and software applications.
  • Students will be able to explain the implementation process of design and development of Information Technology.
  • Students will be able to apply decision-making skills concerning Information Technology issues using theory and practice.
  • Students will be able to identify Information Technology software application problems.
